Where Talent, Grit, and Opportunity Intersect
In 2025, at just 16 years old, Vatiswa Mokhonoana established herself as one of South Africa’s most promising emerging racing drivers. Her progression through national motorsport ranks was both rapid and deliberate, advancing from karting to national circuit racing within a single competitive season. In an industry where opportunity is often shaped by legacy and long term access, Vatiswa entered the sport without a family racing background, relying instead on discipline, adaptability, and an exceptional capacity to learn at speed. Her journey reflects not only raw talent, but the mindset and professionalism required to build a sustainable career in motorsport, making her a compelling long term partner for brands seeking authenticity, growth, and impact.
Her interest in racing began with a fascination for Formula 1, not from watching it at home but from studying what it represented. Precision. Performance. Control under pressure. That curiosity led her to karting, where she was immediately confronted with the realities of competitive racing. Her first race ended at the back of the field, but instead of discouraging her, it sharpened her focus. She treated every session as a classroom, learning racecraft, mechanical feedback, and mental resilience at an accelerated pace.
That commitment did not go unnoticed. Within a year, Vatiswa caught the attention of Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa and was selected for the GR Cup programme. At the time of her selection, she had never driven a road car. With only weeks to prepare, she transitioned into the GR86 and began competing on some of the country’s most demanding circuits, including Zwartkops and Killarney. Her ability to adapt quickly, apply technical feedback, and remain composed under pressure set her apart as more than just a promising newcomer.
In addition to her current racing programmes, Vatiswa has recently been announced as a reserve driver in the Motorsport Development Program with NGK Pablo Clark Racing. This role places her within a structured and highly respected development pathway focused on nurturing emerging talent and accelerating professional growth. Through this programme, she gains valuable exposure to experienced engineering teams, technical support structures and high level race environments. Becoming part of the PCR family marks an important step in her journey, adding depth to her development and further strengthening the foundation for her future in competitive motorsport.
Today, Vatiswa competes in the GR Cup South Africa and the Rotax Max Challenge Senior Max category. She is currently the only female and only Black driver in both of those spaces. She carries that reality with intention. Her presence on the grid represents possibility for young people who have never seen themselves reflected in motorsport. Each race is not only a competition but a statement about access, representation, and the future of the sport.
Beyond the cockpit, Vatiswa brings a rare combination of academic excellence and technical understanding. A top achiever in Cambridge sciences with a strong grounding in physics and data analysis, she approaches racing as both an art and a science. This analytical mindset allows her to communicate effectively with engineers, understand vehicle dynamics, and continuously refine her performance.
Her story has already begun to resonate nationally. She has been featured on SABC’s Sports at 10 and profiled by leading automotive media, drawing attention to her talent, her journey, and the broader conversation she is helping to shape. With strong family support, professional mentorship, and a rapidly growing profile, Vatiswa Mokhonoana is not simply chasing success in motorsport. She is actively redefining who the sport makes space for.

Experience
Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa GR86 Development Program driver/member Mar 2025 - Oct 2026
- Used performance data to improve brake traces, throttle application and steering angle to improve lap times and race results; yielding a 3rd place overall finish in the 2025 championship and highest-placed rookie
- Collaborated with engineers and mechanics on vehicle optimisation, with a specific focus on camber angle and its effects on grip, tyre wear and handling balance
- Provided driver feedback to support engineering decisions and define a season long camber specification adopted by to all cars in the championship
NGK Pablo Clark E46 Test & Development driver Nov 2025 - Ongoing
- Assisted mechanics with component replacements and setup changes before and after race events
- Conducted testing on all four championship competing cars, in the BMW Parts Performance Championship, assessing handling balance, breaking performance, consistency and effectiveness of changing setups and conditions
- Acted as an official replacement driver
- Participated in the driver development program that combines technical breakdowns of vehicle dynamics and mechanical systems, with media and sponsorship outreach training
Xtreme Racing Data & Telemetry Lead
- Collected, processed and analysed telemetry data from on-track practise sessions during National season preparation (South African Rotax Max Challenge, Micro and Mini Max class)
- Evaluated driver consistency, braking and throttle behaviour, corner roll speed and lap-times; guided drivers by translating these evaluations into clear, actionable feedback aimed to improve driving technique and overall performance in races
- Worked closely with driver mechanics data-driven insights with setup decisions, in tyre pressures, sprocket choices, jet tweaks or chassis adjustments, to consistently present race winning karts
